Hi rules group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey peoples what do you think about Catherine's and Jason's relationship? I think that it is interesting that with David she gives him rules and cares for him all the time and looks out for him and she is trying to do the same thing with Jason. In the story it says "Wait" Lifting the page I pull gently so it'll tear neatly" and on the next page Catherine says"If he likes it he can have it. Please tell him that the dot in the window is a flashlight."
which proves that she will give away something she worked hard on to a complete stranger to make him feel happy. I realized that Catherine mght get annoyed by her brother (don't we all) but not because he has autism because she does willingly become friends with Jason and he is mute. I think that if Catherine can learn to not judge a book by its cover like she did with Jason they can become really good friends.

  1. I agree with you Ellen that there is an interesting relationship between Jason and Catherine. On page 121 Catherine runs with Jason,"I turn the wheelchair to face the parking lot.If it gets too wild, lift your hand and I'll know to stop, okay?Jason nods.RUN."Catherine seems to have a lot of sympathy for Jason, because he is less fortunate then her, because he is mute and in a wheelchair. It is an interesting relationship because she is willing to do SO much for Jason.I know I would never do so much for someone mute and in a wheelchair,I would just sit in the clinic and feel sorry for him.

  2. I agree with the both of you because when people think of Jason and David and people like them people think that they are the same because they both have disabilities, but Catherine treats both of these disabilities differently. And I think you would too because if you had a brother with a disability and a friend with a disabilithy you too would have trouble being around him ( I know I would too) because you are used to people around you staring at you when that brother did something different tha those people are used too. But Catherine also has a friend with a disability and treats him completly differently. I also agree that Catherine treats Jason with alot of sympathy but when she is with David, Kristi, and Ryan she isn't as nice to David because she is around people she wants to make a good impression with so she is annoyed that David "ruins" everything.

  4. Hi All,

A great conversation. I think that sometimes it is easier to reach out to people we do not know than those that are closest to us. I think with someone we don't know we can help maybe one time and then go home. When we help some one in our own family we always need to be ready to help. I know that sometimes when I am tried or burnt out from things in my own life it is hard to have the energy to do something else for another person. This maybe Catherine's experience with David - he is always there and consistently needs help and I think she thinks he needs protection. Where as with Jason once she goes home Catherine may not need to there to help him until their friendship becomes stronger and he may rely on her more. Then Catherine will be tested.

    What do you think?
